Liverpool Women's legend Kenny Dalglish has confirmed he is undergoing cancer treatment. The Scotsman made 515 appearances for the club between 1977 and 1990. Dalglish, 75, posted on Instagram that the treatment is going well. He initially intended to keep the matter private but inadvertently revealed his diagnosis on social media. Dalglish is one of the most loved and respected figures in Liverpool's illustrious history. He helped the club win an array of silverware, including three European Cups. In 1985, he became player-manager and led the club to an historic league and FA Cup double in his first season at the helm. Two more league titles and another FA Cup triumph followed before he stepped down in February 1991. Dalglish was a huge support for the families of the 97 supporters who died at the 1989 FA Cup semi-final. He attended funerals and backed their long-running campaign for truth and justice in the wake of the cover-up. After winning the Premier League title with Blackburn Rovers and also having spells at Newcastle United and Celtic, he returned to Liverpool for a second stint in charge in January 2011 and helped them end a six-year wait for silverware by winning the League Cup in 2012. In 2017, owner Fenway Sports Group took the decision to rename Anfield's Centenary Stand in his honour and he remains a non-executive director on the club's board. A Liverpool club statement on Tuesday read: 'The support, best wishes and love of everyone at Liverpool FC are, and will be, with Sir Kenny and his family. The club would also like to underscore his request for privacy moving forward.' Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson also paid tribute to Dalglish while on England duty the same day. 'He's (Dalglish) been a huge figure in my career, the work he's done behind the scenes, with Marina, his wife, whose cancer charity is incredible, he's an amazing guy,' the midfielder said to Sky Sports. 'So from me, I just wish him and the family all the very best. I hope he recovers really well and gets back to his fighting self very soon.'
