Liverpool Women can confirm Gemma Bonner and Gemma Evans will leave the club at the end of the 2025-26 campaign. The pair will bid farewell on Saturday at Anfield in the Barclays Women's Super League season finale with Arsenal. Bonner departs as a Reds legend and the club's all-time leading appearance-maker in the WSL era, having played in 186 games across two spells. The centre-half captained the club to back-to-back league titles in 2013 and 2014 before returning for a second stint in January 2023. She set a new appearance record in November of that year by surpassing Ashley Hodson's previous best of 134, leading to a dressing room at the Kirkby Academy being renamed in her honour. Vastly experienced and talented, Bonner was an important figure in the Liverpool side that re-established themselves in the top flight with finishes of seventh and fourth in 2022-23 and 2023-24 respectively. The 34-year-old has been on the scoresheet five times in the second chapter of her Reds career, two of which came in a thrilling 4-3 victory against Chelsea at Prenton Park in May 2024. Injury has limited her to 10 outings in the current campaign – the 10th one she has been involved in at the club. Head coach Gareth Taylor said: “A fantastic servant for Liverpool Football Club. Something to be really proud of, particular the amount of appearances in the two spells she had at the club. Obviously I was fortunate enough to be able to coach her at Manchester City also. For us she has just been a real ambassador for the football club, on and off the pitch, and she goes with our best wishes because she has given a lot to the club. We really appreciate everything she has done on and off the pitch to drive this club forward. She had a lot of success and has obviously had a real big effect on a lot of people. So, really proud of her achievements and she has been a real stalwart of the club for a long time. She goes with our well-wishes and we’ll always have a place for her here – and certainly a place in our hearts for her as well because she has done so much for this football club.” Evans, meanwhile, signs off two years on from her arrival from Manchester United. The Wales international has appeared 38 times, to date, across her pair of seasons on Mersey.
