Liverpool Women midfielder Sofie Lundgaard has suffered an ACL injury. The 22-year-old Denmark youth international was substituted with injury during Liverpool Women's 3-2 win against Tottenham in the Women's Super League.
What happened?
Lundgaard sustained the injury on Sunday and will see a surgeon this week. Liverpool Women boss Matt Beard said: “We’re all devastated for Sofie.
Why it matters for Liverpool Women
The injury is a blow to Liverpool Women, who have upcoming matches against Manchester City and Crystal Palace in the WSL. Beard added: “It’s a blow for us because she’s had a really good pre-season and recently got herself into the team.
What comes next?
Lundgaard is one of several WSL players out with ACL injuries, including Everton's Aurora Galli and Inma Gabarro, and Chelsea's Sam Kerr, Mia Fishel, and Sophie Ingle. Liverpool Women will look to rally around Lundgaard during her rehabilitation programme.
